A FAMILY CHRISTMAS MASS

Sunday, December 25th, 1 PM – celebrated by Fr. Cyriac

St. John the Baptist Church, 44 Church St., Quincy, MA.

To commemorate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

All are invited and welcome to a Christmas reception and entertainment after the Mass. Our distinguished guest, Santa Claus will distribute gifts to children and encourage our guests to have their photos taken with him. Please remember to bring a wrapped gift with your child/children's name for Santa to give. This will be Santa's last stop before going home to the North Pole. You may also bring a dish or dessert (optional) to share with the community, which we'll greatly appreciate. Christmas is the most important Catholic holiday revolving around the story of how the Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, the son of God.

Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christmas Octave, the eight days from December 25 through January 1. The second day of the festival, December 26, is devoted to St. Stephen, the First Martyr; the third, to apostle and evangelist John the Baptist (on that day wine is consecrated); the fourth day is devoted to the memory of the Holy Infants of Bethlehem (on that day priests offer special blessings to children). Sunday, which falls on one of the days between December 26 and 31, or, if none of the days is a Sunday in a particular year, December 30 marks the feast of the Holy Family: the Christ child, the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph. January 1 marks the joy of the Holy Virgin. Christmas tide continues beyond the Octave until the Baptism of Christ, which in the Roman Catholic calendar is marked on the first Sunday after Epiphany (January 6). Throughout the Christmas holidays the clergy are clad in festive white robes.

Traditions The Christmas tradition of decorating Christmas trees can be traced back to Germanic peoples in whose rituals the evergreen fir tree was the symbol of life and fertility. As Christianity spread among the peoples of Central and Northern Europe, the Christmas tree decorated with colored balls acquired a new symbolic meaning: it was put up in homes on December 24, which in Western tradition is Adam and Eve day, to symbolize the tree in the Garden of Eden.

In the context of Christmas, the fir tree symbolizes the tree of the Garden of Eden and the eternal life man acquires through the New Adam, Jesus Christ.

The Gospel narrative of the three Wise Men who came to prostrate themselves before the Christ child and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh gave rise to the tradition of exchanging gifts at Christmas. Traditionally the family sits down to a Christmas dinner, with the festive food differing from country to country.

Our traditional Malden Christmas Pageant is now on its 7th year.  It will be in Tagalog (Panunuluyan) and will feature our youth, young adults and the young at heart.  The Pageant tells of the humble birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior, Messiah and King. Holy Mass will follow the Pageant. Potluck lunch will be served after at the church hall. Our Christmas Program will include dances and songs. Santa Claus will drop by and say hello to our children. We ask families with children to bring a small wrapped gift labelled with their child's name and please give them to one of Santa's Helpers. We hope you will join our festivities this Sunday!

Youth Rosary

It was wonderful to hear and see our teens and children lead the Holy Rosary. We're  sure our Blessed Mother Mary is delighted with such an offering.
We hope that doing such a role impacts our youth - that, praying the Rosary will be a part of their life. We thank our youth and their parents who helped in the preparation.
Let us do everything we can as Catholics, adults, parents to promote a love and devotion  for the Rosary  in our homes.

Dear Leader who works with Ethnic Communities,

Thank you for all you did for the Catholic Family Festival.  This will not be the only thank you.

Take a look at the three slideshows.  Please send them out to anyone you wish.  Please let me know if there is anything else I can do with them.

"With the following slideshows, I want to share with you the excitement and joy of the Catholic Family Festival that took place at Malden Catholic High School on June 25, 2011.  Over 1400 people took part in the Family Festival with representation of people from over thirty countries.  There are three slideshows.  The first slideshow is from the Mass with Cardinal Sean and was set to the opening song of the Mass.  The second slideshow is from the Cultural Gala which featured dance and drama groups from the various ethnic communities.  The final slideshow is miscellaneous pictures with mostly behind the scenes stuff.  The Family Festival gave special honor this year to the Life of Blessed John Paul II.  I am most grateful to the good work of the Cultural Diversity Young Adult Council, Lorna Desroses, Robert Kavanaugh, Marie Lucci, and to the many, many volunteers.  Each slideshow is a few minutes long but I encourage you to watch it to see the wonderful diversity of cultures we have in the Archdiocese and the number of young people involved in these communities.  It is mostly a tribute to those priests, youth leaders, dance leaders, lay ministers, Deacons, Religious men and women, and the many parishioners of these communities who work day in and day out with these communities."

I send this email out to thank you but also to make people aware of the beautiful things going on in our ethnic communities.  I have been blown away over the past year.  I am grateful to God!!!

We will have games for all ages.  Fr. Cyriac will celebrate a Holy Mass at 3 PM.

Park hours are 8:00AM until 8:00PM during the summer months.  

During the rest of the year, parking lots and grounds are open 8:00AM until sunset.

Times are posted at Main Entrance and all information kiosks.

Auto parking is $5, Parks Pass is $35 in-state/$45 out of state

Details: Life is full of questions: What is the key to happiness? Why do bad things happen to good people? What is my purpose on this earth? Why is there evil in the world? In a world that values quick fixes, it can be unsettling to confront questions like these. Pope Benedict XVl tells us that as much as we may like quick answers, we can gain clarity on the enigmas of life only if we take the time to immerse ourselves in the word of God. Through this sessions and our own prayerful reading of the Bible, we hope to have a closer personal relationship with God and be His witness. "...the God who speaks to us and shares His love so that we might have life in abundance. (Verbum Domini,2).

The Filipino Apostolate is sponsoring a separate Lenten Retreat for the Adults and Youth/Young Adults. Come, spend a day of contemplation and appreciation for the season of Lent and the sacrament of Reconciliation.

WHAT: A Lenten Day Retreat for Adults

This One FA Choir will not replace the chapter choirs in their regular Sunday Mass worships. The recruitment is open to all who loves to praise the Lord.
